The Grambling State University baseball team saw its two-game win streak end on Tuesday night as the Tigers dropped its midweek game, 13-11, to Stephen F. Austin at Jaycees Field
Grambling State (15-21) battled back from a four-run deficit, tying the game at 11 in the sixth inning. However, Adrian Minjares doubled in the bottom of the frame, bringing in Cal Campbell and Cal Martin as Stephen F. Austin (11-22) earned the two-run victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
– Grambling State took advantage of an error in the top half of the first inning to grab a 1-0 lead
– However, the GSU lead was short lived as Stephen F. Austin scored four runs on three hits, took advantage of a pair of errors, to take a 4-1 advantage after one inning
– The Tigers answered in the top of the second as Shemar Page ripped a two-RBI triple down the line in right, cutting the deficit to 4-3
– Grambling State grabbed a 6-4 lead with three runs on four hits, took advantage of an error, in the top of the third inning
– John Garcia opened the frame with a base hit up the middle and scored on a Julian Murphy double to center
– Murphy came across to score when Cameron Bufford doubled to left
– With two down, Terry Burrell III reached on an infield hit as Bufford scored
– Back came Stephen F. Austin, scoring four runs on three hits in the bottom of the third to grab an 8-6 lead
– The Tigers closed the gap to 8-7 with a run in the fourth as Garcia tripled and came in to score on a Murphy ground out
– Despite closing the gap, Stephen F. Austin poured on three runs on four hits in the bottom of the frame to extend the lead to 11-7
– Grambling State rallied with four runs on four hits in the top of the sixth, tying the game at 11
– Page led off the inning with a single to center and moved to second on a Trevor Hatton base hit to left
– Garcia followed with a two-RBI double to center as Page and Hatton scored
– With one down, Bufford belted a two-run shot to left as the Tigers tied the game at 11
– The Lumberjacks broke the 11-all tie in the bottom of the seventh with a pair of runs to grab a 13-11 advantage
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
– Grambling State scored 11 runs on 12 hits, with two errors, and left six on base
– Stephen F. Austin finished with 13 runs on 14 hits, recorded a pair of errors and stranded 11 on base
– John Garcia paced the Tiger offense by going 3-for-4, with three runs scored and a pair of RBI
– Cameron Bufford went 2-for-5, with three RBI and two runs scored
– Shemar Page also went 2-for-5, with two RBI and one run scored
– Trevor Hatton was 2-for-4, with a pair of runs scored

– Peyton Parker, Joe Richter, Cully Mangus, Benny Emmons III, Chandler Poell, Skylar Jaco and Brooks Caple pitched in relief
– Poell (2-1) picked up the win in 1.0 inning of work
– Caple earned the save in pitching a perfect ninth inning
